COURSE CLOSED UNTIL MONDAY 4TH APRIL

Image
Unfortunately due to the very heavy course conditions, the machinery has been unable to get out onto the course at all over the last week. We have been advised that the course is therefore to remain closed for the weekend, re-opening Monday 4th April. The little amount of golf able to be played of late is obviously disappointing for all of us, but hopefully we are seeing the back end of this rain soon.  The club remains open and card draw will proceed as planned tonight from 5pm as usual. Thanks, Rod

A Note from the Captain

Image
From the Men’s Captain,  I take this opportunity to bring you up to date with what’s going on at Breakers Men’s Golf Club. We are now part of the Mounties family; a good percent of the golfers will now have a new membership card. For those members who have not visited the club since we joined the Mounties family, you will get an opportunity to renew for 5 years for only $12.  All monies on your card have been transferred over to your new card. We did have a small hiccup with prize money but that now has been fixed.  We are all very frustrated with the amount of rain we are having and how much golf we are NOT playing. This has meant we have had to make a few changes to the Fixtures. I can announce the Creighton’s cup will now be played on Tuesday 31st May 2022 and the Mixed Foursomes on Saturday 14th May 2022.  Due to the Covid pandemic, the Men’s committee have not been able to give back to members as they would have liked, therefore I can announce on the evening of ...

Course Update - Saturday 26 March

Image
Remarkably, only 10 golfers played in the Saturday competition today. Remarkable in that it was actually a really lovely day for golf, only a brief 5min rain period all morning.  Yes there were some puddles and wet underfoot in parts, BUT the greens are all in beautiful condition after the coring. Generally speaking, the fairways have good roll.  Part time model and full time television industry heavyweight Mr Joel Noble, here shows his exemplary putting technique on the 5th hole draining a birdie putt after a magnificent approach shot from 140m. Colm Carey also got into the action, holing out from 100m on the 15th for birdie, then got another birdie on the 18th showing just how nice the course is playing. Unfortunately Joel and Colm didn't do quite do enough to match Rampaging Rod Hutchinson's 37points on the day in win group honours. The course is holding up OK, as we haven't had the deluge experienced to North and South of us (yet) so if you have the opportunity to get o...

PREFERRED LIES

Image
The rule relating to preferred lies is a local rule and varies from course to course So, this is a summary of the rule. When taking a preferred lie, the player may take relief  once  by placing the original ball within the appropriate distance of the original spot.  Several things are important to note here.  Firstly, it is vital to choose a good place to move your ball to, because if you decide you don’t like it, too late, you can only move it  once  under this rule. Secondly, what happens if you place your ball and it subsequently moves off that spot? In the past, as many of you would remember, you had to play the ball from where it rolled to. BUT, this rule changed in 2019 and, now, you must replace the ball on the spot you first moved it to. If for some reason, it won’t stay there, you need to place it as near as possible, no nearer the hole, so that it will stay in place. Thirdly, do you have to mark the original spot before you prefer your ball? Again...

Please make sure you rake the bunkers when you finish your shot and give the next payer a even chance of playing their shot.
