Pennants Update - Round 7 - 27 February '22

Image
By Rod Hutchinson The teams headed up to Magenta to take on Wyong and despite a week of heavy rain, the course presented in amazing condition. The greens were fast and true, fairways had bounce and run with no puddles to be seen. In fact, the only rain all day was a brief 15min downpour just prior to tee off. Peter Crowder in a tough place, despite 2 solid shots. Magenta's little fairway bumps, nooks and crannies can be brutal.  C Grade - All Square - 1 1/2 to 1 1/2  Chris Mott + Gary Evans. WON 4&2. The most formidable pairing since Han and Chewy, they boys got the job done once again. Chris worked his way around the course beautifully early to help build a lead, then Gaz stepped up to the plate when his partner decided to have a breather. Jeff said they just work so well together, holding onto the lead once got it to close out a well deserved win. Adam Quayle + Colin Coote. All SQUARE . More comebacks than Johnny Farnham this match, fighting  from 2 down three times in the da

CORING OF THE GREENS/TEE BOXES - 7 March

Image
It's that time of year when Wayne and his amazing team will soon core the greens and tee off areas. So only some very short term pain for golfers, unless you're Dean Osborne who grew up putting on the sandy greens around Dubbo and can't wait! Committee Member and lawn care guru extrordinaire Adam Quayle (from Adam's Lawn and Property Care) explained more to me about the the upcoming coring and more.... Alright Ads, hit me - when is it happening? Coring is scheduled (weather permitting) for Monday 7th March and is expected to be completed within a day.  So what is coring and how is it done?   Coring (or a erating)  is a course maintenance technique that loosens the soil, opens up growing room for turf grass roots, as it helps air, moisture and nutrients get to the roots.   A special machine (such as pictured below) removes small cores of soil, leaving a hole behind.  Once the coring is completed around 20 tonnes of top dressing sand will be applied and spread evenly acr

Pennants Week 5 Update – 13/2/22

Image
PENNANTS WEEK 5 UPDATE - 13/2/22 By Rod Hutchinson The Breakers train is full steam ahead with another dominant performance at  Everglades GC. Both B & C grades won all 6 matches to take full points against Magenta Shores, each now moving towards the top end of their ladders. All games were played in great spirits under the leadership of Club Captain Crowder, once again a great supporter in the manager role. With a BYE for Breakers next week, we then start the run home with matches against Wyong (at Magenta), Toukley (at Shelley), then close off the season against Shelley (at Everglades). Both Grades are in contention so it's going to be an exciting finish to the season no doubt!   B GRADE – 3-0 WINNERS   Rod Hutchinson & Paul English WON 6 & 5 . Paul caught fire over the first few holes, before Hutch decided to join in on the fun. Putting was the highlight on the day, including a 15 footer from Paul on the par 5 2 nd for birdie, then Hutch drained a long one

Repair Pitch Marks and Divots

Image
Hi all, The course is looking really good but we are seeing lots of un-repaired pitch marks on the greens and unfilled divots on the fairways Have a look at the following videos as to the correct way to repair your pitch mark and divots If you don't have a pitch mark repairer you can get one from the Pro Shop or worst case use a tee, please make sure you and your playing partners carry a sand bucket and understand the correct way to fill a divot.

REDUCING DELAYS ON 4th HOLE

Image
The 4th hole is still proving to be a cause of delays during competitions, often with 2 groups waiting to tee off. These delays lead to frustration and unfairly disrupting the flow of rounds for the groups behind. To help improve this, the Committee is asking for your support by doing the following; 1) DON'T WAIT FOR YOUR WHOLE GROUP TO PUTT OUT . When the first 2 players complete the hole they should immediately walk over to the 5th tee and prepare to tee off. This is the same case if a player is delayed while others on the green, two of the group can finish the hole and move on to avoid delays. If the 5th fairway is clear, you can tee off before your group finishes the 4th hole. 2) BAGS TO SIDE/BACK OF GREEN . Always leave your bag/buggy to the sides and back of the green, please don't leave it in front. (This is the case on all holes).  We all want to enjoy our time on the course and avoid unnecessary delays, so thank you for working together with us on the above.   Thank y

Pennants Results Week 4

Image
PENNANTS – WEEK 4 – 06/02/22 By: Rod Hutchinson Great result for Breakers, with B Grade winning 3-0 and C Grade winning 2-1 against Kooindah Waters. The course at Gosford was playing heavy after all the rain, with preferred lies given through the green.  Both B & C Grade have a large playing roster and strong feeling of team comradery has been building over the past few weeks within it, so it’s not surprising that we are now seeing some really good results for Breakers GC.  B GRADE – 3-0 WINNERS   Team 3. Paul English & John Seal . WON 6&5. Arrived late so fast talking and a reshuffle in the order by Captain Searle was required. Their experience and jedi mind tricks against some big hitting young punks, to slowly build a lead and then run out convincing winners. They need to report to the headmaster’s office during the week to explain their late arrival.  Team 2. Darren Hutton and Neale Carr . WON 3&2. An absolute ripper of a contest by all reports, with 4 or 5 birdies

Rules to Remember - Unplayable Lie in Bunker

Image
Can you take relief from a bunker?   If you don't want to or decide you can't play your ball as it lies when your ball is in a bunker, you may decide it is unplayable. If you do this, you have 4 total options. The players four options: See reference numbers on diagram (1) For one penalty stroke, the player may take stroke-and-distance relief by dropping a new ball and playing from the same spot the original ball was played      (2) For one penalty stroke, the player may take back-on-the-line relief in the bunker.  (3) For one penalty stroke, the player may take lateral relief in the bunker.  (4) For a total of two penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the spot of the original ball.  DIAGRAM RELIEF OPTIONS FOR BALL UNPLAYABLE IN BUNKER  A player decides that his or her ball in a bunker is unplayable.
