PENNANTS – WEEK 3 – 30/1/22   Correspondent: Rod Hutchinson  Breakers faced the high-flying and undefeated Gosford this week up in Wyong. The odds were stacked against us – the punters taking on short-priced Gosford odds early. Surely with such a record, they’d sweep the plate – surely, I mean – #whatcouldgowrong for Gosford.  The Breakers boys stepped up to the plate, locked horns with the beast and came away from the day ALL SQUARE across both grades. Good and fair result from the slugfest that was.  Darren and Rod (Your Correspondent) share a beer on the 19th celebrating victory B Grade  Team 3 – Darren “H Bomb” Hutton & “Rocket” Rod Hutchinson = WON 3&2 Hutto and Hutch found themselves 2 down after 2, fought back to all square through 4 though. From there, the boys were 1 down 3 more time on the front nine – but each time fought back to level it. Come the back 9, it was like watching Winx and Classique Legend have a run, WINNING 3&2 to send Gosford packing.  Team 2 – P

Rule of the Week - Lost Ball

Image
When Can I Declare My Ball Lost Contrary to what some golfers believe, the rules of golf do not allow you to declare your ball lost. If you have hit your ball into a particularly bad spot, you may decide not to look for it but your opponent or playing companions may still look for it and stumble across it. If they do, you will have to deal with it from where it is found - however bad!  Of course, you could always play another ball from where the original bad shot was taken without declaring it a provisional ball. In this situation, the second ball automatically becomes the one in play, but beware - if your original ball had taken an unseen ricochet into a favourable spot, you would not be able to play it. Playing a provisional Ball Playing a provisional ball is an option taken into account in a golf game under penalty of stroke and distance to save time when the ball in play might have gone out of bounds or be lost outside a penalty area. In other words, this is the second ball you pl

Pennant Update

Round 2 of Pennants,  B and C Grade teams headed to the hills to Mangrove Mountain to take on high flying Everglades, who demolished Shelley Beach last week. Course was heavy from overnight deluge, resulting in official declaring preferred lies through the greens - the right call too as was very boggy in many parts.  The greens were varied, some were lightening quick we expect - others quite slow. Overall, very much improved results from last week so well done to all!  B Grade (A/S - 1 1/2 - 1 1/2 pts)   Team 1 - Peter Searle & Neale Carr (A/S). Came back from 3 down to level it on 17 with a 20 foot putt from Peter, then just missed the putt on last for the win.  Team 2 - Colm Carey & Rod Hutchinson (Down 2 & 1) Great match going back and forth all day, level on 15 but were edged out by some really good shots over last few.  Team 3 - Rod Mickelson & Paul English (WON 2 &1) The two super subs leading the way for the team with a great win. According to Harry, Rod

This Weeks Pennant Results

Image
The first round of pennants kicked off for the year, with the B and C grade teams heading up to Kooindah Waters to take on the Mangrove Mountain posse.  Varying paced greens, but the course was otherwise in good condition with moderate winds and steamy conditions.  B Grade Pennant Team B Grade (0 to 3).  Strong team for MM this year with some masters pennants players returning, but very tight matches all round coming down to the last couple of holes.  Team 3 (Colm and Wayne) fought back from 4 down to square it, then some late magic cost them.  Darren and Rod went tit for tat all day, had 4/5 putts sit near the lip but not to be.  Peter and Neale had Mr Chatty and Mr Tree Ricochet who both just had one of those days together.  T1 Peter Searle & Neale Carr (Lost 2&1)  T2 Darren Hutton & Rod Hutchinson (Lost 1 down)  T3 Wayne Fuller & Colm Carey (Lost by 2)  C Grade Pennant Team C Grade (1/2 to 2/12).   Again a strong team by all reports.  The Gazza's fought tooth and

How Good Does The Course Look

Image
Over the past few weeks everybody has been commenting on how good the course looks. Its so nice to see the definition between the rough and the fairways and the picture tells the story, the greens staff have received their new Kubuta Rough Mower and what a difference it has made If you see Wayne and his team whilst playing a comment on how good the course is wouldn't go astray

The Alan Black Memorial

Image
"The Alan Black Memorial day was played on Thursday 30th December.  The organiser,Breakers life member Alan Sinclair said the event was first played around 1980 with Big Al organising the golf day until he passed away in 2002.  The day was then renamed in his honour and was expanded from a 9 hole ambrose comp to include a round robin bowls competition as well.  Tim Black, a former Breakers golfer attends every year to present his father's trophy.(see photo)  This years winners were the St George team of Alfred Helbling, Rod Michelsen, Glenn Bainbridge and Peter Crowder. The defending champions, John McGrath's Tigers team were ineligible to win two years in a row.  A great day was had by all.
