Pennants Results Week 4

PENNANTS – WEEK 4 – 06/02/22
By: Rod Hutchinson

Great result for Breakers, with B Grade winning 3-0 and C Grade winning 2-1 against Kooindah Waters. The course at Gosford was playing heavy after all the rain, with preferred lies given through the green.

Both B & C Grade have a large playing roster and strong feeling of team comradery has been building over the past few weeks within it, so it’s not surprising that we are now seeing some really good results for Breakers GC.

B GRADE – 3-0 WINNERS
Team 3. Paul English & John Seal. WON 6&5. Arrived late so fast talking and a reshuffle in the order by Captain Searle was required. Their experience and jedi mind tricks against some big hitting young punks, to slowly build a lead and then run out convincing winners. They need to report to the headmaster’s office during the week to explain their late arrival.

Team 2. Darren Hutton and Neale Carr. WON 3&2. An absolute ripper of a contest by all reports, with 4 or 5 birdies on the day between both teams. Scoreboard pressure throughout from the boys won it in the end, as they just did not give the opposition a look in despite them giving it their all. Team

1. Colm “The Tree Whisperer” Carey and Peter Searle. WON 5&4. Came out of the gates hotter than a Wonder Woman lookalike convention, going 3 up after 3 holes. Colm had his little leprechauns hidden in the trees helping a few stray drives.
The opposition hopes ended on 14th when with Colm’s ball on the green near the flag, their wedge landed on top of Colm’s ball and duly flew away off the green.

C GRADE – 2-1 WINNERS

Team 3. Adam Quayle & Brian Ferrao. WON 6&5 Adam is in a purple patch at the moment, actually personally being 2 over through 14 when it finished. But as Adam pointed out, Brian contributed to the team at just the right times to help seal a dominant victory (despite losing his club on a tee shot in the rain). These pennants first timers really enjoyed their day and the format. Well done lads.

Team 2. Phil White and Garrie Johnstone. WON 2&1. A formidable pairing, currently undefeated as a team over the last 2 years. They complimented each others play all day in a see-sawing battle, eventually running out winners after the 17th to keep that record in tact.

Team 1. Chris Mott and Gary Evans. LOST 1 down. A nail biter this one and the only group on the day to actually play the 18th hole after being All Square through 17. Some good fortune on the last (9 th ) for Kooindah when a long drive went left but luckily hit a wall and bounced nicely back on to the fairway. This led to leading to a wonderful chip and putt by their opponents to win the match.

Winners are grinners, back at home base celebrating the victory
