Super Seniors Update

Image
On Monday Breakers Golf Club hosted Magenta Shores, Gosford, Wyong and Kooindah Waters, officiated by Glen & Jeff. The course was set up to the maximum it could without doing any damage.  Magenta beat Gosford 5&3, Wyong beat Kooindah 7&1, comments from all players was very positive a 2.5 handicapper said what a pearl of a course we have and most comments we received were to compliment Wayne & his staff on a tremendous job they have done to present the course in excellent condition. This is the first time we have hosted for some considerable time it shows that we can punch above our weight.  On Monday our team of Steve Adlard, Glenn Bainbridge, Rod Michelson, Michael Hogan, Rick Petrie, Deiter Hajduk, Wayne Fuller and Phill Lucas go to Wyong to play Kooindah Waters in a match that should be close. Good Golfing Jeff.

Super Senior Pennant Update

Our team played against Shelly Beach at Magenta Shores on Monday and were defeated 6.5 to 1.5.  Glenn Bainbridge won 4&3 and Phil Lucas did really well to square his match. After a game that went back and forward all day Rod Michelsen lost on the 18th, however Dieter Hajduk, Rick Petrie and Mike Hogan came up against some hot opposition and went down. A special Thank You to Jeff Shadbolt who filled in at short notice and looked stunning in his new Breakers vest. Although Jeff was defeated, he did his best for Breakers Glenn Bainbridge

Course Starting to get Back to Normal

Image
Hi Everyone,  With the weather we have had over the last week, the course has dried out exceptionally well and from Saturday we are looking to revert back to some full holes.  Please keep in mind that this is still dependant on weather and can be brought back to the current par 3 if it gets too wet again.  But from tomorrow we are looking at:   1st hole – open back up to full hole  2nd hole – full hole as normal  3rd hole – still remaining shortened, however increasing yardage by approx. 40 metres  4th hole – full hole as normal  5th hole – still remaining short, no change to this hole  6th hole – full hole, reds off the front  7th hole – full hole but off front tee  8th hole – still remaining shortened  9th hole – full hole off front tee. In front of tee will be marked GUR  I think Members will be happy with this configuration, as always, feel free to provide feedback.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Regard...

What does playing golf mean to you.

Image
What the sport of golf means to people is extremely difficult to put into words, since at any one moment golf can be any number of things.  It can be a moment of triumph as you break 80 for the first time and give your mates a hard time or copping it from them in a crushing defeat as you 3-putt your last hole to lose a match, it can hold moments of pure joy and jubilation after you hole out for eagle and disbelief and heartbreak on the next as you pump two tee shots right out of bounds.  We are not playing against other players, as much as we are playing against a course: an inanimate, unfeeling thing, even if it does not always seem like it.  Why do you spend the money to play a game that humbles you?”   The answer is as simple as it is complicated: we love it, hitting that shot out of the trees and onto the green is why we love golf. Hitting that crisp iron from the fairway and seeing the ball roll onto the green or dropping in that snake from 35 feet to save ...

Message from the Captain

Image
To Golf Members  Gentlemen, we are in regular discussions with Matt, Venue Manager and Wayne Hensley, Ground Superintendent to open up the course as soon as possible.  It has been suggested by some members that we can open up some of the Par 4 holes.  Having played yesterday (Saturday) there are to many areas that are still holding water and the safety of our members is foremost in the minds of Mounties management.  Is is somewhat disappointing to see such low numbers playing the alternative Par 3 course.  This was designed as a temporary measure but with more rain predicted, we may be playing the Par 3 longer than first thought. If this is the case, we plan to make adjustments to handicaps to provide a more even playing field.  Whilst we are using temporary score cards, please make sure your Name and Handicap are written the scorecard .  We have had score cards handed in with no name on the card. We will only be playing a Single Stableford on the Par ...

18 Hole Competitions this Weekend

Image
Hi all, just in case there were any doubts, the course will still be open today in its shortened format.  We had about 9mm last night (Thursday) but the playing and walking areas of the course are still in good condition and with the cutting the staff did throughout the week, hopefully the wet areas will be able to dry out even quicker.  Saturday and Sunday will be 18 hole comps on the par 3 course and prizes will be allocated  as per normal

Introducing Matthew Farrugia

Image
There have been a lot of blog stories lately re  decisions made about the golf course and I have been asked by a number of the members “who is Matthew Farrugia” Matthew Farrugia  Breakers Venue Manager  Matthew started in the Club industry at 19 years of age at Seven Hills Toongabbie RSL Club as a GPU whilst finishing his Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.   His drive and passion for the industry grew as he became a Club Supervisor by the age of 21.  3 years later he was promoted to Duty Manager and then added the Gaming Portfolio to his responsibilities soon after.  Matt also began to oversee Promotions and Marketing, taking on a more senior role in Club Group in his late 20's, until being promoted to Group Gaming Manager, which he has been in for the past 9 years.  The role evolved into more of an Operational role, to which he has been a vital part of multiple amalgamations as the Club Group expanded from 2 to 5 Clubs, as well as many m...
