Putting Competition

Image
After the members’ draw on Friday afternoon, 26 members—both men and ladies—gathered on the practice green for a light-hearted but competitive putting competition. Spirits were high, and friendly banter filled the air as each participant took their turn. It quickly became clear that a few had brought their A-game, with putts dropping from all angles. However, as the field narrowed, James Cameron proved to be the standout performer. Calm, consistent, and cool under pressure, James outlasted the competition to claim the win, much to the applause and cheers of the crowd. For those who didn’t quite hit their mark in the initial rounds, a repêchage (second chance) round was held—giving everyone another shot at glory. This time, it was Peter Searle who rose to the occasion, sinking crucial putts to take out the repêchage and walking away with bragging rights of his own. All in all, it was a great finish to the afternoon—filled with laughs, good company, and a bit of healthy competition. Than...

Pennant Wrap

Report on 2025 District Pennant A GRADE This year started with the best response to nomination we have had in a long time. For the first time since 2013 we nominated an A Grade Side into the competition. They performed extremely well jumping out of the blocks with 2  wins from 2 starts, Captain Nick Merritt leading from the front, giving the remainder of our opposition a bit of a fright. The team went on to record another win, finishing in sixth place out of Nine.   B GRADE The B Grade side, led by Bulldog Wayne Fuller again performed  superbly  well  finishing equal 7 th  after having some very tough matches that could have gone either way. Well done to Victor Carr and Mark Chilvers, they performed at a competitive level in their first season of pennants  C GRADE C Grade also performed well losing  some close matches by just ½ point. They also had the best performing player in Matt Edghill who only lost one match and that was against Everg...

Tree Root Rule Change

Image
Members please be aware that our local rule regarding tree roots is not approved by Golf NSW and as such we need to change the wording to the following. EXPOSED TREE ROOTS IN THE FAIRWAY If a player's ball is in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots that are in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less or in the rough within two club-lengths of the edge of the fairway, the tree roots are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.  Interference does not exist if the tree roots only interfere with the player's stance. Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rule: General Penalty Under Rule 14.7a   Andrew Robb Manager, Rules, Handicapping & Course Rating

Alan Ball has Hole in 1

Image
Alan Ball celebrating his third hole in one at the 4th at Crown Golf and Country Club,  Hunter Valley. At the Sydney Vets Hunter Valley Tour (day 2)  playing off 4 hcp today.   Alan was going ok but then wiped a couple of easy holes.   Last hole of the day, 140m Par 3 4th hole, w ater to the left and into a light breeze, ]t ough Par 3, and after getting a measly total of 1 point in the previous 2 holes Alan was thinking ‘4 a 1’ gets him 30pts, but he got ‘1 a 4’ and finished with 33pts.   He hitt a pure 6 iron, pitched 2 inches right of hole and spun in! Well done Alan
