PENNANTS – WEEK 3 – 30/1/22
Correspondent: Rod Hutchinson
Breakers faced the high-flying and undefeated Gosford this week up in Wyong. The odds were stacked against us – the punters taking on short-priced Gosford odds early. Surely with such a record, they’d sweep the plate – surely, I mean – #whatcouldgowrong for Gosford.
The Breakers boys stepped up to the plate, locked horns with the beast and came away from the day ALL SQUARE across both grades. Good and fair result from the slugfest that was.
B Grade
Team 3 – Darren “H Bomb” Hutton & “Rocket” Rod Hutchinson = WON 3&2
Hutto and Hutch found themselves 2 down after 2, fought back to all square through 4 though. From there, the boys were 1 down 3 more time on the front nine – but each time fought back to level it. Come the back 9, it was like watching Winx and Classique Legend have a run, WINNING 3&2 to send Gosford packing.
Team 2 – Paul “You speaka Da” English & Rod “Not Phil” Mickelson = Lost 2&1
Was like Hagler-v-Hearns, slugfest going back and forth through 9 – lifting themselves off the canvas from 2 down, to square it. Mickelson birdied 13 to go ahead, Gosford struck back with a birdie to level it. Harry parred 14 to go 1-up, Gosford won 15 to level it before winning 16 to sneak ahead, then won it on 17.
Team 1 – Peter “The Closer” Searle & Neale ”Get Outta My Dreams, Get into my….” Carr = ALL SQUARE
Ding dong battle all day, swapping leads on multiple occasions. Our boys found themselves 3 behind thru 10, but Neale hit a purple patch to go 1-up thru 15. Gosford won 16 and 17 to go 1-up, leaving boys with some work to do on 18. Peter hit his 2nd to the bunker, but then hit from 30ft a perfect shot to 30cm. Gosford needed a 2 metre putt (see how I’m mixing with metric and imperial there), but pressure was too much with Captain Searle sealing the deal with a long(ish) putt across the break to win the last and share the spoils.
C Grade
Team 3 – Pat “Never dropped a bomb in 15 years” Hudson & Jeff “The Real Katie” Perry = LOST 1 down
The boys were re-united after a magnificent closing victory last week. More swinging than Studio 54, with lead swapping place multiple times over first 9. Gossy edged ahead to be 3 up the 3 to play, before the lads won 16 and 17 to be 1 down. Unfortunately Gossy pulled finger out of the proverbial to win the last and the day.
Team 2 – Phil “Is Black is” White & Gary “Long” Johnstone – ALL SQUARE
Slower away than ScoMo’s environmental policy, Phil and Gaz found themselves slipping behind faster than the Mellennium Falcon on the Castle Run. A quick slapping on cheeks, saw some action with levelling of scores on back 9 and they held on to finish all square, chances from both team on last couple to win it so a fair result.
Team 1 – Chris “The Termitnator” Mott & Gary “Sent from the..” Evans = Won 6&5
Shut the gates, close the shop…. these boys are just on FFFIIIIIIRRRRE. After winning 8&7 last week, the boys decided to go (a tad) easier on the opposition this week toying with them at times, before deciding the beer was ready on the 19th and closing out. The Father and Son opposition never saw the freight train coming, as they fell to the Coasts hottest pairing since (I actually don’t know when).
Next week, we take on the Kooindah Waters crew at Royal Gosford.
Tee off from 10:30am….. If you’d like to come along to support, please speak with Peter Searle or Jeff Perry.
Stay safe and see you next week…..
