Pennants Week 5 Update – 13/2/22

PENNANTS WEEK 5 UPDATE - 13/2/22

By Rod Hutchinson

The Breakers train is full steam ahead with another dominant performance at  Everglades GC. Both B & C grades won all 6 matches to take full points against Magenta Shores, each now moving towards the top end of their ladders. All games were played in great spirits under the leadership of Club Captain Crowder, once again a great supporter in the manager role.

With a BYE for Breakers next week, we then start the run home with matches against Wyong (at Magenta), Toukley (at Shelley), then close off the season against Shelley (at Everglades). Both Grades are in contention so it's going to be an exciting finish to the season no doubt!

B GRADE – 3-0 WINNERS

Rod Hutchinson & Paul English WON 6 & 5. Paul caught fire over the first few holes, before Hutch decided to join in on the fun. Putting was the highlight on the day, including a 15 footer from Paul on the par 5 2nd for birdie, then Hutch drained a long one across the grain on the 9th for birdie. Overall great team play and constant pressure got the win.

Neale Carr & Darren Hutton. WON 3 & 1. They had each others backs in the first few holes, Neale nailing his drive then a wedge for a birdie on the 3rd. Darren used his trusty 3W to great effect throughout, his shot of the day being a tee shot on the 7th 190m par 3 to just 4 feet. They were ice cold as the beer on the 19th coming home to seal the deal.

Peter “The Terminator” Searle & Wayne Fuller. WON 1 Up. Ding dong battle that went all the way to the last. Wayne’s tee shot on 8th to 8 feet was a cracker, only for old mate to hit in from the bunker for birdie – Wayne nailed the putt for a (painful) birdie half. Captain Searle played strongly but saved his best for last yet again, with a great drive and approach terminating the oppositions hopes of a win.

C GRADE – 3-0 WINNERS

Phil White & Brian Ferrao. WON 9 & 8. Yes you read that score right, a spanking of the highest order. Brian parred 3 of the first 4 holes (including a close one on the par 3 4th hole to just 3 feet). While the experienced Mr White was enjoying the show, he decided when it was time to pull the trigger on some hurt of his own for the opposition with some great chips and putts. It was the seasons biggest win in a match for Breakers, so early drinks were well deserved.

Jeff Perry & Adam Quayle. WON 3 & 1. A back and forth affair, but remained in control each nailing some clutch putts. Jeff kept the pressure on playing up the hey diddle diddle all day, while Adam’s rich vain of form continued even *boldly declaring at drinks “I’ll beat Glenn off the stick next weekend mark my words”. Over to you Prez….

Colin Coote & Garrie Johnstone. WON 1 UPThe team welcomed back Colin after a brief hiatus, Gaz keeping his undefeated Pennants record in tact. The lead swung like the 60s through the first 9, before Col and Gaz each chimed in for wins. They were 3 up with 3 to play before getting their money worth and holding out for the win on the 18th - in doing so, sealing the clean sweep for Breakers on the day.

*may be a little bit of Rupert style reporting in my recollection of that statement.
