Axeman Shootout Results

AXEMAN SHOOTOUT FINAL

The final of the Axeman Shootout was held on Sunday the 13th with the finalists excited and nervous at the same time. Most players had organised a caddie and it was good to see support for players out on the course.

At the Trivia night, the Calcutta auction, the largest bid was for Darren Reeves, closely followed by Barry Hayward and Chris Mott. With the drinks carts full and Trace O’Meara looking after the scoreboard, battle commenced.

With David Lowe a late drop out, the remaining ninefinalists were able to have a warmup going down the first.

The shootout started proper at the second with severalplayers struggling with downhill puts.

The fourth hole creating somewhat of a surprise with Glenn Bainbridge eliminated. We had three birdies on this hole from Barry Hayward, Darren Reeves, and Paul English. Glenn found the bunker off the tee and just missed his par putt.

All 6 players that were left were playing good golf and you needed a par to be sure of getting to the next hole.

John Foster, late replacement for the injured Jeff Perry was axed at the fifth with pars and net pars needed to make sure you went to the sixth.

Chris Mott with the highest qualifying score went out at the six.

Barry Hayward was in good form but with the golf at a remarkably high standard his Axeman competition was over.

Peter Cartlidge hit a great drive down eight and put his second shot on the green and sunk the putt for a birdie. This left Paul English and Darren Reeves, in a chip off to fight it out for a place in the final. Gary Burke selected a point for chip off, Paul going first left his chip 5 feet from the pin, Darren couldn’t manage to better Paul’s chip, some thinking his favouritism got the better of him.

Down the last, two players left, Paul English and Peter Cartlidge, both players had hit the ball exceptionally well over the previous 8 holes. Both scored five and a chip off was required to decide the winner. As before Paul hit a great chip to about 3 feet and sadly Peter could not get closer.

The Axeman Trophy and all the prizes presented by George from Habitat Tree works.

I am pleased to announce the Axeman Shootout has raised $1,043.00 which will be added to the monies raised at the Trivia night, bringing the total to $3,933, plus the $2,000 donated by Mounties.

A brilliant all-round effort from the members and not forgetting the prizes donated by our sponsors.

A very sincere THANK YOU.
