Melbourne Cup Golf Day

Image
Melbourne Cup Ambrose 2025           The inaugural Breakers Melbourne Cup Ambrose Golf Day was held on Tuesday morning under bright sunshine. Sixteen teams of four teed off in a shotgun start at 7:30 am — but not before enjoying a delicious bacon and egg breakfast, kindly served by Chef Glenn and Mounties Regional Manager Matthew Farrugia . It was a colourful sight as teams made their way to their respective tees. The format was drop-out Ambrose : the player whose ball was selected sat out the next shot until the group reached the green, where all players then putted until the ball was holed. There was no compulsory number of tee shots required. The pace of play was excellent — perhaps helped along by a few visits to the drinks cart, expertly driven by Allan Ball (thanks Allan!). Everyone was back in the clubhouse well in time to pick their winners and losers for the Melbourne Cup, buy tickets in the sweeps, and enjoy a very tasty buffet lunch. The...

BREAKERS MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 "The Mens Championship match play finals were played last Saturday in overcast conditions.First up in C grade was Garry Burke Vs Lee Naylor, the number 1 qualifier.Garry got off to a good start and hit his tee shot on the second hole to 48 cms for a tap in birdie.Lee fought back throughout the match but was unable to reel Garry in,and eventually Garry won 2 and 1. Next up in B grade was the Old Fox Jeff Shadbolt Vs the ever consistent John Roche, an intriguing match up. John got off to his usual power fade start with Jeff showing a some early nerves for the first few holes.Jeff's putter started to warm up sinking several crucial putts as he gained momentum and took the lead.John tried to peg him back, but in the end Jeff won 3 and 2. A grade matched Greg Swanson,a 5 time Club Champion against Steve Adlard who had never won it before.Greg went ahead early but Steve hung on through his usual up and in scrambling to keep within striking distan...

HUNTER VALLEY GOLF CLUB VISIT. A group of Breakers finest travelled to the Hunter Valley during the week to compete in a friendly but hotly contested 18-hole Stableford competition. Not a 100% sure why but we hit off the blue markers, as we needed a cut lunch to get to the tees that were so far back. Paul Pascoe with a respectable 36 points was the winner on the day also hitting the longest drive. Mystery team winners were Darren Reeves and Chillie, Darren also got NTP which was not far off going in, for a hole in one. What a difference 48 hours makes wooden spoon, went to Stephen Adlard who sometimes was so far in the bush that he had the wildlife as his spectators. A great day was had by all!
