Breakers Super Seniors Report – Monday 6th July

Despite persistent rain leaving the course extremely wet, the decision was made to play Monday's Super Seniors pennant match at Breakers Golf Club. With conditions underfoot making play difficult, competitors were permitted to tee the ball up through the green, ensuring the match could proceed fairly and safely.
The difficult conditions certainly didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the Breakers team, who produced an outstanding 5–3 victory over Wyong. It was a tremendous team effort, with every player battling hard in testing conditions.
Leading the winners was Steve Adlard, who secured his match on the 18th green after holing a nerve-racking final putt to claim a memorable victory. Rick Petrie continued his consistent form with a solid 3 & 1 win, while Wayne Fuller recorded an impressive 5 & 4 victory after a putting display where he seemingly couldn't miss all day.
Although they didn't all come away with victories, several Breakers players produced determined performances against strong opposition. Mick Bowdich, playing in the number one position, faced a very tough opponent and battled courageously throughout the match. Dean Osborne and Dieter Dajduk were involved in hard-fought contests that swung back and forth all day, with neither player giving an inch as they battled right to the finish.
Glenn Bainbridge came agonisingly close to securing a win. After playing a magnificent second shot into the green that looked certain to win the hole, his opponent produced a miracle recovery from the right-hand rough, hitting an incredible shot close before calmly holing the putt to square the hole and halve the match.
One of the closest contests of the day belonged to Greg Swanson, who went toe-to-toe with his opponent from the opening tee. In a match that could have gone either way, Greg was unfortunately defeated on the 18th hole after a courageous effort.
Congratulations to the entire Breakers team on an excellent 5–3 win. To perform so well in such difficult conditions speaks volumes about the determination, resilience and team spirit shown by every player. It was a fantastic team performance and one that gives Breakers plenty of confidence heading into the next round.

2 025 SENIOR PENNANT ROUND 1RESULTS OUTSTANDING WIN FOR ‘A’ GRADE What a great start to the Senior Pennant competition. It has been a quite a few years since Breakers entered an ‘A’ Grade side  in the District Pennant. Our first match was held at Toukley GC. Conditions were great for golf and our A, B and C grade teams fired up and ready to go. Our opponents for the first match, Kooindah Waters. A grade led the way with Greg Duval, Adam Knight, Nick Merritt  (Captain), Greg Swanson, Alan Ball and Phil Carter. Most of the matches were remarkably close and Phil Carter securing a  half in his match to give the team an Historic Victory, 3 ½ to 2 ½ win. Wins for Alan Ball, Nick Merritt and Greg Swanson. ‘ B’ GRADE ‘B’ Grade had a disappointing start to their 2025 Pennants campaign,  going down 2 ½ - 1 ½.  BREAKERS MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 Sunday saw a field of four players per division with the match play format. Players were evenly matched with three of the groups going to the 18th hole for a result. There was some exciting tussles, no more so than Greg Swanson and Glenn Bainbridge , going down the 18th all square, Greg pushed his tee shot right, into the trees, Glenn a great drive down the middle, advantage Glenn, Greg took the penalty only to hit a magnificent 3rd shot to within 3 metres of the pin, Glenn came up short to the right for 2, his 3rd shot, a chip landed on the ridge in the middle of the green but did not roll out to the pin, which was located at the back of the green, thus was still short for 4. Greg sank a great putt for a par 4 and took the match. A special mention has got to go to our one and only terrier, Stephen Adlard down by 2 at the 12 to fight his way back to win 4 holes in a row and take the match 2 and 1.
