Super Seniors Men's Pennants – Round 4

It was always going to be a tough assignment taking on the competition leaders, Shelley Beach, on their home course—particularly with a couple of our regular stars enjoying some winter sunshine on the Queensland border.

Despite the challenge, the Breakers team gave Shelley Beach a real run for their money, with several matches going right down to the wire and capable of swinging either way.

Congratulations to our winners: Club President Glenn, who recorded a solid 2 & 1 victory, Greg Swanson, who held on for a 1-up win, and Warren "Doc" Butts, who battled hard to square his match. Shelley Beach 5.5 Breakers 2.5

The remaining results certainly didn't reflect how competitive the contests were. Pete Searle found himself a little star-struck after discovering his opponent was the former drummer of AC/DC. These days his rival spends six or seven days a week on the golf course, giving him a slight advantage on Shelley Beach's lightning-fast greens!

While the overall result didn't go our way, everyone enjoyed a perfect day for golf. The course was presented in excellent condition, and, most importantly, every match was played in the true spirit of the game—a credit to both clubs.

2 025 SENIOR PENNANT ROUND 1RESULTS OUTSTANDING WIN FOR ‘A’ GRADE What a great start to the Senior Pennant competition. It has been a quite a few years since Breakers entered an ‘A’ Grade side  in the District Pennant. Our first match was held at Toukley GC. Conditions were great for golf and our A, B and C grade teams fired up and ready to go. Our opponents for the first match, Kooindah Waters. A grade led the way with Greg Duval, Adam Knight, Nick Merritt  (Captain), Greg Swanson, Alan Ball and Phil Carter. Most of the matches were remarkably close and Phil Carter securing a  half in his match to give the team an Historic Victory, 3 ½ to 2 ½ win. Wins for Alan Ball, Nick Merritt and Greg Swanson. ‘ B’ GRADE ‘B’ Grade had a disappointing start to their 2025 Pennants campaign,  going down 2 ½ - 1 ½.  BREAKERS MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 Sunday saw a field of four players per division with the match play format. Players were evenly matched with three of the groups going to the 18th hole for a result. There was some exciting tussles, no more so than Greg Swanson and Glenn Bainbridge , going down the 18th all square, Greg pushed his tee shot right, into the trees, Glenn a great drive down the middle, advantage Glenn, Greg took the penalty only to hit a magnificent 3rd shot to within 3 metres of the pin, Glenn came up short to the right for 2, his 3rd shot, a chip landed on the ridge in the middle of the green but did not roll out to the pin, which was located at the back of the green, thus was still short for 4. Greg sank a great putt for a par 4 and took the match. A special mention has got to go to our one and only terrier, Stephen Adlard down by 2 at the 12 to fight his way back to win 4 holes in a row and take the match 2 and 1.
