SUPER SENIORS PENNANTS – ROUND 6

FINAL ROUND OF THE SEASON

Our final round of Super Seniors Pennants saw Breakers take on the current Division leaders, Shelly Beach, at home.

With home-ground advantage and a total handicap advantage of 69 to 73, we were confident of giving Shelly Beach a tough contest. However, those expectations soon evaporated as the blustery conditions arrived. Shelly Beach showed why they are the current leaders, using their experience in playing in strong winds to their advantage and getting ahead in most matches by the turn.

There were, however, some great fightbacks from the Breakers team.

Greg Swanson, a seasoned campaigner, led from the beginning and finished early with an impressive 7 & 6 victory.

Glenn Bainbridge produced a great comeback after being down at the sixth, fighting his way back to win 4 & 3.

Wayne Fuller also showed plenty of determination, coming from behind to record a 4 & 2 win. Wayne's 6'4" opponent jokingly claimed that Wayne had a distinct advantage in the strong wind by being able to keep the ball lower!

Phil Carter wasn't giving up either, battling all the way to the 18th to square his match.

Once again, it came down to the wire, with Breakers going down by the slimmest of margins, 4½ to 3½.

Despite the result, it has been a fantastic season for our Super Seniors, finishing third in the division.

WELL DONE TEAM!

Congratulations to everyone who represented Breakers throughout the season. There were plenty of close matches, great comebacks, some outstanding golf and, most importantly, plenty of team spirit.

2 025 SENIOR PENNANT ROUND 1RESULTS OUTSTANDING WIN FOR ‘A’ GRADE What a great start to the Senior Pennant competition. It has been a quite a few years since Breakers entered an ‘A’ Grade side  in the District Pennant. Our first match was held at Toukley GC. Conditions were great for golf and our A, B and C grade teams fired up and ready to go. Our opponents for the first match, Kooindah Waters. A grade led the way with Greg Duval, Adam Knight, Nick Merritt  (Captain), Greg Swanson, Alan Ball and Phil Carter. Most of the matches were remarkably close and Phil Carter securing a  half in his match to give the team an Historic Victory, 3 ½ to 2 ½ win. Wins for Alan Ball, Nick Merritt and Greg Swanson. ‘ B’ GRADE ‘B’ Grade had a disappointing start to their 2025 Pennants campaign,  going down 2 ½ - 1 ½.  BREAKERS MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 Sunday saw a field of four players per division with the match play format. Players were evenly matched with three of the groups going to the 18th hole for a result. There was some exciting tussles, no more so than Greg Swanson and Glenn Bainbridge , going down the 18th all square, Greg pushed his tee shot right, into the trees, Glenn a great drive down the middle, advantage Glenn, Greg took the penalty only to hit a magnificent 3rd shot to within 3 metres of the pin, Glenn came up short to the right for 2, his 3rd shot, a chip landed on the ridge in the middle of the green but did not roll out to the pin, which was located at the back of the green, thus was still short for 4. Greg sank a great putt for a par 4 and took the match. A special mention has got to go to our one and only terrier, Stephen Adlard down by 2 at the 12 to fight his way back to win 4 holes in a row and take the match 2 and 1. BREAKERS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 This weekend saw 52 players compete in our club, championship qualifier over two days in fine weather. The course was in great condition, and the pin placements were fair but challenging especially on our new 9 th / 18 th green where I believe even our “A” grades managed some triple bogies. A special thanks to Craig who added some nice touches around the course like mown aprons at the front of the greens and overall presentation of the course. Although there were plenty of stories about missed opportunities, bad bounces and if only, at the end of the day winners are grinners and in this case, there are eight players in each division go through to next week’s match play format well done to you all.
