PENNANTS – WEEK 3 – 30/1/22   Correspondent: Rod Hutchinson  Breakers faced the high-flying and undefeated Gosford this week up in Wyong. The odds were stacked against us – the punters taking on short-priced Gosford odds early. Surely with such a record, they’d sweep the plate – surely, I mean – #whatcouldgowrong for Gosford.  The Breakers boys stepped up to the plate, locked horns with the beast and came away from the day ALL SQUARE across both grades. When Can I Declare My Ball Lost Contrary to what some golfers believe, the rules of golf do not allow you to declare your ball lost. If you have hit your ball into a particularly bad spot, you may decide not to look for it but your opponent or playing companions may still look for it and stumble across it. If they do, you will have to deal with it from where it is found - however bad!  Of course, you could always play another ball from where the original bad shot was taken without declaring it a provisional ball. In this situation, the second ball automatically becomes the one in play, but beware - if your original ball had taken an unseen ricochet into a favourable spot, you would not be able to play it. Playing a provisional Ball Playing a provisional ball is an option taken into account in a golf game under penalty of stroke and distance to save time when the ball in play might have gone out of bounds or be lost outside a penalty area. Round 2 of Pennants,  B and C Grade teams headed to the hills to Mangrove Mountain to take on high flying Everglades, who demolished Shelley Beach last week. Course was heavy from overnight deluge, resulting in official declaring preferred lies through the greens - the right call too as was very boggy in many parts.  The greens were varied, some were lightening quick we expect - others quite slow. Overall, very much improved results from last week so well done to all!  B Grade (A/S - 1 1/2 - 1 1/2 pts)   Team 1 - Peter Searle & Neale Carr (A/S). The first round of pennants kicked off for the year, with the B and C grade teams heading up to Kooindah Waters to take on the Mangrove Mountain posse.  Varying paced greens, but the course was otherwise in good condition with moderate winds and steamy conditions.  B Grade Pennant Team B Grade (0 to 3).  Strong team for MM this year with some masters pennants players returning, but very tight matches all round coming down to the last couple of holes.  Team 3 (Colm and Wayne) fought back from 4 down to square it, then some late magic cost them.  Darren and Rod went tit for tat all day, had 4/5 putts sit near the lip but not to be.  Peter and Neale had Mr Chatty and Mr Tree Ricochet who both just had one of those days together.  T1 Peter Searle & Neale Carr (Lost 2&1)  T2 Darren Hutton & Rod Hutchinson (Lost 1 down)  T3 Wayne Fuller & Colm Carey (Lost by 2)  C Grade Pennant Team C Grade (1/2 to 2/12).   Again a strong ...

  Over the past few weeks everybody has been commenting on how good the course looks. Its so nice to see the definition between the rough and the fairways and the picture tells the story, the greens staff have received their new Kubuta Rough Mower and what a difference it has made If you see Wayne and his team whilst playing a comment on how good the course is wouldn't go astray
